Brahmas Shut Out El Paso To Complete Weekend Sweep

October 2, 2022 – North American Hockey League (NAHL)Lone Star Brahmas News Release

North Richland Hills, TX – The Lone Star Brahmas used a 2-0 Saturday shut out by the returning Arthur Smith to complete the weekend sweep of the El Paso Rhinos after Friday’s 5-4 victory.

Smith, the Princeton commit, earned both wins in goal marking his return to Brahma Land, including 19 saves behind a staunch defensive effort on Saturday.

Game two of the weekend started with the first career goal for newcomer Connor Bergeron. Ryan Prewitt and Bauer Swift picked up assists on the tally.

The Brahmas capitalized on a power play late in the third as Merrimack commit Matt MacDonald fired home his second goal of the weekend to cap the scoring 2-0. Swift and Nathan Mann assisted on the goal.

In Friday’s 5-4 win, Mason Mara started the game strong with a pair of goals in the first period. The Rhinos answered to tie the game 2-2, before Dhillon Wilde scored. But once again El Paso had a response.

It happened one more time in the third period. MacDonald put the Brahmas ahead 4-3 but the Rhinos tied it again.

Ray Murakami, fresh off a commitment to Niagara University, scored on a wraparound to make it 5-4 Lone Star and it would prove to be the game-winning goal.

Lone Star, now 6-1 overall, hits the road for the first time against South Division opponent Corpus Christi for a pair of games next Friday & Saturday night. The Brahmas return home for another two games against the Ice Rays on October 14-15 at the NYTEX Sports Center. Get your tickets now, online at bit.ly/lsbtickets.
