Rangers Battle Owen Sound in First Road Game of the Season Saturday

Owen Sound, Ont. – The Rangers will play their first road game of the season Saturday as the club hits the road for a division contest against the Owen Sound Attack. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

Head-to-Head:

The Rangers hold the slight advantage on the Attack over the last three seasons posting a 13-9-3-1 record dating back to the start of the 2018-19 campaign. Their best span was during that 2018-19 season when the Rangers recorded a 6-2-0-0 showing in eight games and winning all four on home ice at The Aud.

Scouting the Rangers:

Kitchener native Matthew Sop started his 2022-23 campaign by recording 2 assists in lasts night’s game against the Sting. Defenceman Tomas Hamara (Ottawa Senators) picked up where he left off in the pre-season adding two points (1G, 1A) in his first regular season game for the Blueshirts. Captain Francesco Pinelli returned to the Rangers from NHL camp joining Hamara and Sop with two points of his own (1G, 1A).

Scouting the Attack:

Owen Sound’s point leader from last season, Deni Goure returns to the attack after posting 24 goals and 39 assists last season. Cedrick Guindon also returns as the team’s leading goal scorer with 30 tallies last season. Defenceman Sam Sedley led the Attack blueline in points with 42 (4G, 38A) in 64 games.

The Attack have three returning NHL Draftees on the roster this season, all being forwards. Cedrick Guindon (Montreal Canadiens), Kaleb Lawrence (Los Angeles Kings) and Servac Petrovksy (Minnesota Wild).

Broadcast Coverage:

Saturday’s contest will be televised live throughout Kitchener and the Waterloo Region on Rogers TV, cable channel 20, and can be watched across the province of Ontario on the Super Sports Pak, channel 470, for cable subscribers. The Rogers TV production will be streamed live online on OHL Live on CHL TV. Additionally, the game will be broadcast live on the radio on CityNews 570 AM CKGL. Mike Farwell and Chris Pope will have the call with the pregame show starting at 7:00pm.

Rangers back from NHL Camps:

Seven Kitchener Rangers were away competing at NHL Training Camps for the past month but all have returned and are available to play in Friday’s Opening Night game at The Aud: Tomas Hamara (Ottawa Senators), Mitchell Martin (Detroit Red Wings), Simon Motew (Washington Capitals), Francesco Pinelli (Los Angeles Kings), Roman Schmidt (Tampa Bay Lightning), Joseph Serpa (Chicago Blackhawks), Reid Valade (Ottawa Senators)

Rangers partner with Sun Life for Helmet Decal:

The Kitchener Rangers, in partnership with Sun Life, are excited to announce that Kids Help Phone will be the official helmet decal sponsor of the Kitchener Rangers for the 2022-23 season. A partnership that will bring awareness to Kids Help Phone’s services and promote youth mental health.

As part of their renewed strategic partnership with the Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club, Sun Life has secured the inaugural helmet branding rights for the Kitchener Rangers as part of a one-year pilot program being introduced by the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In support of Sun Life’s commitment to youth mental health in Canada, they have donated the helmet decal to Kids Help Phone. For more information on the partnership, click here.

Next up:

The Rangers will continue their three-game road trip next week as the East Avenue Blue head to the Nation’s capital for a visit with the Ottawa 67’s on Friday, October 7th. This will be the club’s first meeting with Ottawa since October 25th, 2019. The Rangers will then have a day off on that Saturday before facing the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday, October 9th.

Next Home Game:

The Rangers are back at The Aud on Friday October 14th when the club hosts the Owen Sound Attack. Tickets are $21 for children and $25 for adults and can be purchased online now.
