The Prince George Cougars swiped away the first victory in their seasonal series with the Kelowna Rockets, downing them 6-3 on Friday night at the CN Centre in Prince George, BC.

Kelowna got on the board first with a highlight-reel goal from Andrew Cristall. However, the momentum of the game shifted towards the end of the period when the Cougars netted a pair of power play goals seventeen seconds apart. Prince George continued to dominate throughout the second period, netting four unanswered goals. The Rockets made a goaltending change to start the third and pushed back in the final frame with a pair of goals to cut the Cougars lead in half.


Jari Kykkanen made 16 saves on 22 shots before being replaced by Nicholas Cristiano, who stopped the only two shots he faced in the third period.

GAME SUMMARY

After the Cougars rang it off the crossbar, Andrew Cristall (3) took off up the ice alone to score a highlight-reel goal. Ethan Samson (1) and Hudson Thornton (1) scored back-to-back power play goals just seventeen seconds apart in the final minutes of the opening frame.

The Cougars then scored four unanswered goals in the second period, with Thornton (2), Fischer O’Brien (1), Noah Boyko (1), Riley Heidt (2) all finding the back of the net.

The Rockets cut Prince George’s lead in half in the final frame on a power play goal from Jake Poole (1) and an even-strength goal off of the blade of Rilen Kovacevic (1).

The Rockets were 1/3 on the power play while the Cougars were 2/5

Elias Carmichael recorded his fifth career multi-point career game, recording two assists

Rilen Kovacevic recorded a team-high six shots on net, notching his first goal of the season
