82 USHL Ties on NHL Central Scouting Preliminary List

NHL Central Scouting (NHLCS) announced Tuesday the service’s annual Preliminary Players to Watch List, which included 82 players who have played in the USHL to date. Among the USHL ties, seven players are A-rated by the scouting service, which predicts them as a 2023 NHL Draft First Round candidate, including current Omaha Lancers goaltender Michael Hrabal and current USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) forwards Ryan Leonard, Oliver Moore, Gabriel Perreault and William Smith. Former USHL forwards Adam Fantilli (Chicago Steel, 2020-22) and Charlie Stramel (NTDP, 2020-22).
“The USHL is proud of the quality number of former and current players on the NHL Central Scouting Preliminary Players to Watch List,” said USHL President & Commissioner Bill Robertson. “Our great League has tremendous talent amongst all 16 Member Clubs and it shows with this current Watch List and the development of our League as the players continue to get better and better each year.”
Among the 82 USHL ties, 17 are B-Rated, 54 are C-Rated and four are listed as “Limited Viewing,” joining the previously mentioned seven A-Rated players. B-Rated players are slated as a Second or Third Round selection, C-Rated players are slated as a Fourth, Fifth or Sixth Round selection and “Limited Viewing” players are those who are injured or have not had sufficient viewings to be categorized, according to NHLCS. The USHL ties are broken down with 45 forwards, 28 defensemen and nine goaltenders.
The USHL is coming off the 2022 NHL Draft, which saw the League tie its own record with 57 selections. The USHL has now had 50-or-more NHL Draft picks in each of the last five Drafts and now has 990 NHL Draft picks all-time including four first overall picks: Owen Power (Buffalo Sabres – 2021), Jack Hughes (New Jersey Devils – 2019), Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs – 2016) and Rick DiPietro (New York Islanders – 2000).
