10-Man Tormenta FC Earns Valuable Point in Omaha
October 8, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1) – South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. – In its final away game of the 2022 USL League One regular season, South Georgia Tormenta FC earned a well-deserved 1-1 draw after playing down a man for most of the game. Kazaiah Sterling’s lone goal of the night helped South Georgia come closer to obtaining a position in the USL League One Playoffs, presented by Hisense.
South Georgia’s Owen Green was shown a controversial red card early in the first half, forcing Tormenta FC to play with ten men for the rest of the game. The ensuing play led to Omaha’s first goal of the evening in the 24th minute.
A completely different second half saw South Georgia bring the game to the home side. Two quick shots on target brought danger to the Omaha keeper, and soon enough, South Georgia earned its deserved equalizer.
A great run by Mukwelle Akale saw him take on the Omaha defense and take Akale down in the penalty box, earning a penalty for South Georgia. Cool, calm and collected, Sterling placed the ball to the opposite side of the diving keeper. With this goal, Sterling records his 13th goal of the season.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Mukwelle Akale. Akale proved to be the most dangerous match on the field after creating opportunities and earning a crucial penalty kick for the Statesboro side. With six out of nine duels won, Akale left everything on the field to help his team continue to push for a playoff position.
Following its fixture against Union Omaha, Tormenta FC will host the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in the final match of the regular season as the Red Wolves SC visit Optim Health System Field at Tormenta Stadium for the first time next Saturday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
